Come to our meeting and learn about events planned for the year. Program Chairs will be available to discuss their events. This is a great opportunity to meet the chairpersons, explore opportunities for your students and learn ways that members can participate and make LWMTA a stronger and more vital organization for teachers and students.

Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 10:30 am: Presenter Luke Doubravsky “Ideas of Improvisation and Arrangements of Well-known Melodies”
LWMTA Member, piano teacher and performer, Luke Doubravsky will take familiar music and share how he improvises. Luke is a classically trained pianist who is comfortable with all styles of music including jazz, contemporary, popular and American favorites.We are excited to have him discuss this topic of improvisation with us!

Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:30 am: Jensina Oliver, NCTM “Cultivating Your Ideal Studio Culture with Group Classes”
Dr. Jensina Oliver, teacher and performer, will be sharing her presentation that she gave at the conference in June. Cultivate your ideal studio culture with group classes along with private lessons. In this presentation we will discuss how to use group sessions to practice performance skills, build mental stamina, reduce stage fright, and develop ear training skills. We’ll work on building pulse through conducting, developing a growth mindset, exchanging positive mantras, creating “feel good plans” (pre-performance routines), and teachers from all disciplines can share their best practices with the group.

Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 10:30 am: Presenter: Ricardo de la Torre “Getting to Know Our Neighbor: A Pianist’s Guide to Pedagogical Repertoire by Mexican Composers”
Ricardo de la Torre DMA, performer and teacher, will be sharing his presentation that he gave at the conference in June.
Mexican Composers have produced a wealth of piano music of pedagogical value. This lecture will offer a panorama of elementary to late intermediate teaching repertoire by Mexican composers from the 19th to the 21st centuries, discuss its main characteristics and performance tradition and provide information about its availability in the U.S.

Please join us for a round table discussion with members sharing ideas about their studios. This is a chance to learn creative solutions for common concerns music teachers have and share policies that work in their own piano studio.

Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 10:30 am: Presenter Judy Huehn “Online Lessons”
Do online piano lessons really work? How common is it? What are the best ways to conduct online lessons? These are just some of the questions we will discuss in our February 27th general meeting at LWMTA. Judy Huehn will be our host and provide some insights on how other teachers are teaching online and what tools and resources they are using to make the lesson easy and effective for their students. With new advancements in technologies like Yamaha’s Disklavier Remote Lesson app and Paul Adam’s new 1ON1 Piano software, these new developments are providing better 2-way real-time audio and video reception and were featured at the MTNA’s Convention in Reno in March 2023. We will also have an open discussion of teachers’ experiences with online lessons and what the Top Ten Reasons are for teaching online.
