Announcements/New Business
Book Donation Sale (Joyce Meech)
Joyce has brought music today! All proceeds from today will go to our chapter.
You can also contact Joyce and make an appointment to look at music at her house. Part of the proceeds from music purchased from Joyce at her house will go to a non-profit for human trafficking. If you want a specific composer or piece, call Joyce (her number is in our yearbook).
Joyce has a new email address! Jwmeech2007@outlook.com
Musical Passport Festival (Stephanie Lee for Makiko Meyer)
48 participants, from 11 teachers. Makiko would like to increase registration rates for all levels by $5.
MGR (Stephanie Lee for Cherry Li & Gloria Tzuang)
We have a confirmed recital opportunity for January 12th. She has called other retirement homes trying to schedule a December recital, but so far has not heard back.
Virtual MGR (Selina Chu)
Since there may not be an in-person recital for MGR, you might take a video! Deadline is December 8th, but if you need another week let Selina know. She has only two videos right now.
MAP (Selina Chu)
Page 30 of your yearbooks: February 19th-22nd, 2025 (Wed-Sat). The visiting artists are Hannah Cho (Thursday-Saturday) and Jennifer Hammill (Saturday). Wednesday, Feb.19 will be scheduled as necessary. Jason Kuo is going to do a zoom presentation and Q&A so if you have questions you can watch that!
If you have an advanced student and want to book 2 30-min sessions, book 2! The only thing is you need to name each submission differently, for example “John Smith #1” and “John Smith # 2”.
Deadline for registration is January 10th, 2025. Register online.
Young Composers Recital (Mary Kaye Owen and Kaitlin Mitchell)
Sunday January 26th, 2025 at Northwest Pianos, 5pm-7pm (yearbook dates NOT correct). Virtual participation option available for those who want to participate but can’t be at the recital. Feel free to submit any notation style (just letters, hand-written notes, graphic score, etc.). Students can also submit artwork. Register via google form (registration details in yearbook).
Teacher’s Recital (Kaitlin Mitchell)
Page 29 of your yearbooks: Saturday February 1st, 2025, 6pm-8pm at Northwest Pianos. Kaitlin hopes everyone will consider participating! Keep in mind you can just share something you’re working on already, or an intermediate piece that your students love and you think we would like to hear.
Resources for Inspiration:
A Seat at the Piano (database for underrepresented composers). I have been pleasantly surprised at the variety of levels and composers offered. Includes modern/living composers, as well as past composers whose work deserves more recognition.
Composer Connor Chee (the keynote speaker from the WSMTA Conference this year).
Frank Sanucci is also a suggestion from Joyce!
December Potluck (Stephanie Lee)
Tuesday December 17th at Satomi Pellerin’s house! We’ll need RSVPs the week before, Stephanie will email.
Workshop
“If I had a Time Machine: Working Smarter, Not Harder” – Katie Levine
Meeting Adjourned (12:02 PM)
Respectfully submitted,
Kaitlin Mitchell
