November 2021

Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 10:30 am: Presenter Scott Price “The Transfer Student: We All Have Them”

This program was originally presented at the 2021 MTNA Virtual conference. Following this video will be an open discussion.

Whether it is a tiny 6-year-old who comes to you from a music readiness program or the graduate student who enters your studio playing at a very high level, we all teach, mostly, transfer students. Some of the greatest American teachers explore how to make the best of these frequent situations, whether the student is the young child, a high school student college-bound in music or an adult learner, returning back after many years of work in another field. What are some of the artistic, technical and psychological issues we must address? What are some of the best repertoire assignments to make when we encounter this circumstance? And, what can we do to retain more of our own students, to keep them moving ahead and achieving the goals they would like for themselves.
